About Me...
I'm Robyn - as my online bio elsewhere says, a Londoner slightly too short to reach anything of interest...
My enjoyment of photography began when I was bought a point & shoot Kodak Instamatic camera by my Aunt and Uncle. I was about 8 years old I think, and can clearly remember wanting to take pictures of everything and anything, so fascinated was I by the way you could capture a moment forever…I still find that fascinating and with the aid of digital photography it's so much easier now! I primarily take photos for my own enjoyment, however, I have also had photos used commercially, by charities, by the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows and published in the national press. Should you wish to make use of any of the images found on this site please contact me first for permission - you will find a contact form further down this page.
It is so easy to take photographs these days – with mobile phone cameras becoming ever more sophisticated almost everyone has a camera with them all the time with the minimum of inconvenience and additional cost. To an extent the old adage of “The camera never lies” is becoming less true – with digital images it is (too?) easy to manipulate what is shown. People or items can be removed, enhanced or indeed added. Taken a family photo but Uncle Bill arrived later? No problem – add him onto the end behind Auntie Maud. Wedding photo with the bride’s hair over her face? Easy – retouch to show a perfect ‘do. This is all well and good, but in my opinion this comes close to trying to change history. Who hasn’t listened to their Mum reminiscing over her wedding album about how her big day was so windy she could hardly keep her veil on, or how terribly her dress creased in the car on the way to the church? It’s the little 'imperfections' like this that keep memories alive. A photograph should be an image of a moment in time, as it happened, not as you would have liked it to have happened in a perfect world. My photos are usually given minimal post-processing - indeed some processing is required for images shot in RAW on a Digital SLR camera, regard with suspicion those who claim their images are "straight from camera"! I may sometimes clone out a dust spot, or change to black & white images from colour…..but the things and the people you see in them are largely those things and people which, for whatever reason, appeared in the frame when the shutter released.
I have moved on a little from that Kodak Instamatic too - these days I am shooting with Canon 7DMk2 & 80D DSLR camera bodies, and lenses ranging from Canon's 24-70mm f4L to the 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L Mk II. Kit bags are Lowepro, Tripod & monopod Manfrotto, and for a compact camera these days I rely on my excellent iPhone 12.
